Another Williams family likes the Routan
Dave and I have been tossing around the idea of trading in the Tahoe for something that gets better gas mileage. I have been drooling over the Equinox for awhile now and our local dealership got one in exactly like I wanted. We went Monday and test drove it and I'm glad we did because I'm not drooling over it anymore. Neither Dave nor I were sold on it. We decided to go and look at the Volkswagen dealership to check out their cross-over SUVs. Neither of those were what we were looking for and then the salesman showed us a Routan, VW's mini-van. Dave and I both told him that we just were not mini-van people but we would take a look and we loved it! We loved the storage and cargo room room and all the amenities that you got for the money. You definitely got more for your money than on the Equinox. It doesn't get as good of mileage as the Equinox but it beats our Tahoe. Then we test drove it. I've never driven a mini-van before and will need to go and test drive a couple to compare but I was amazed. It felt like I was driving a car. Dave and I both loved the way it drove and the way it rode. And of course, Grace and Zachary loved it! We are going to do our research and look around but here is a picture of the Routan that I would REALLY like to have.

VW Microbus Concept Video circa 2001
I found this at http://www.xenonheadlights.net/video/vw-microbus-concept.html There is no doubt that the microbus generates a lot of passion. It is interesting to see the comments people left on the Xenon Headlights site.

Fabulous FInds Friday: Yes Virginia, There is a Cool MInivan
I’ve spent a lot of time talking about how uncool minivans are. I wrote a book called “Rebel without a Minivan.” I BLOGGED about how to make your minivan cooler. You would think, after all this, that I would never be caught dead talking favorably about a minivan.
Well, guess what?
Yes, it seems that pigs really can fly and I have found a minivan that I would not be embarrassed to be seen in.
Maybe it’s because it looks more like an SUV than a minivan. Or maybe it’s because it actually gets decent gas mileage. Who knows, but when I saw a Volkswagen Routan up close and personal, I decided I could come down off my high, minivan-hating horse and give the Routan a chance.
It's got all those mom-friendly minivan features that makes us suburbanites drool, like a rearview back camera, nav system, rear seat entertainment system for the kids, lots and lots of storage space, and 13 cupholders so almost every passenger can drink two Big Gulps at the same time.
But it also happens to look good. Really, really good. Not like that one minivan that shall go nameless that looks like a lady with a really large backside from behind… which of course, makes you wonder what the lady who’s driving the car must look like, too.
I happen to think the Routan looks a lot like the Audi Q7 from the front, with a slightly larger grill and higher nose than you are used to seeing on a minivan, and it is boxier all around than the typical mom-mobile (this is a good thing!). Inside, the leather version is Cheerios and Juice box friendly, and the pretty dash makes you feel like you’re driving a sportier vehicle than a van. As an aside, this is the car that Brooke Shields chooses to haul her tots around in… and if its good enough to look good on Brooke, it's good enough for me.
In full disclosure, I haven’t driven it so I can’t tell you firsthand if it will satisfy the rebel-mom race car enthusiasts out there, but I’ve heard it's got a lot of zip for a car its size. If you add the racing stripe decals I blogged about several weeks go, NOBODY is going to mess with you on the road.
The Volkswagon Routan starts at around $25k. To check it out, click here.

New Website Demystifies Car Pricing--For Free
By Jim Motavalli | Dec 16, 2009
Did you know that two of the best days to buy a car (if you can get away) are Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve? Did you know that you can get 20 percent or more off Saturn Vues and Auras right now because GM is trying to run through their remaining inventory?
I didn’t either, but I’m up to speed now. These are a couple of the insights provided in TrueCar’s “TrueTrends” report, released today (and available at http://www.truecar.com/). The report also offers information on which cars are the most and least negotiable in purchase price. For obvious reasons, the 2009 Chrysler Aspen is one of the most negotiable, but who knew that the much more desireable 2010 Mini Cooper would be on the list? For the reason, read on.
Other very flexible models include the GMC Yukon (big SUVs are hard to sell these days), the Audi A5, and the Chrysler Sebring (bad ratings in Consumer Reports don’t help). Least flexible models include the VW Routan (the comeback of the minivan?), the Toyota Yaris (small cars are back), the Mazda Miata (the bestselling sports car of all time) and the Mazda5. But why does the Hummer H3 appear on this list? Again, read on. …
OK, that’s out of the way. I talked to Jesse Toprak, who is TrueCar’s vice president of industry trends and insights. “Why isn’t pricing on the Hummer H3 more flexible?” I asked. “The point is not that the least flexible models are the most expensive,” he said. “It means that they could be giving it away [a likely scenario with the H3] but they’re giving it away in a similar range. When you walk in, you know what you’re likely to pay?
And the Mini Cooper as most flexible? “That’s on the other extreme,” Toprak said. “The range of prices on the Mini Cooper is extremely wide. People can walk into the same dealership on the same day, and the one who is well informed will pay much less than sticker, and the other who is clueless will pay $3,000 over MSRP.”
Upon disparities like this, businesses are based. TrueCar is a web-based California-based startup launched last spring, with $2.8 million in A-series financing and a second round aiming to bring in a lot more early next year. Toprak is a refugee from the respected Edmunds.com, and he has helped assemble a staff of 20 in Santa Monica (with 10 hires to come). …
Warmed By Remote
After working late on Tuesday, we were in early on Wednesday to get on the phone with the developers in India and got all but one design transitioned and that one will go out the door today. For the most part, things went pretty well and that's a good thing. We'll have everything wrapped up before the two-week break - and yes, i'm taking those two weeks! - and then we'll be back to do it all over again. Deadlines, deadlines...
The VW Routan that i got this week has a remote starter. If i park in plain sight (i.e., not in the ramp (what they call parking garages up here) i can start the sucker from the 6th floor window so it's not quite so cold when i go out. Actually, with my gloves and knit cap, i'm pretty good. Plus, it has bun warmers! i'm not sure where Hertz came up with these VW's - last week a Jetta, this week a rebadged Chrysler minivan - but i like 'em. At least i don't get those damn Toyotas anymore.
OK, last day at the office. Is it 4 o'clock yet? Hope your day goes smoothly.

Routan = Appealing; Odyssey = Not Sexy
The 4th on the list is the Dodge Grand Caravan/Chrysler Town & Country/Volkswagen Routan. Of the 3, Automobile Magazine commented: "...with the exception of the Routan's slightly more appealing looks, all of them are cut from the same Detroit cloth."
The 5th vehicle is the Honda Odyssey. Automobile Magazine says: "It might not be the sexiest minivan on the planet, but it's definitely the most well-rounded."
The bottom line:
Volkswagen Routan = Appealing Looks
Honda Odyssey = Not Sexy

Celebrities + Volkswagen = FLOCKS for Fraggle Rock
By: Natalie Klein
HOLY MOLY!!! It was a regular Wednesday Night and I will say it takes A LOT for me to get out of the house and leave the kids especially in this cold weather, but I had heard there was this incredible new line of jewelry and accesories for Fraggle Rock YES Fraggle Rock and was super curious to see the Fraggle Rock Volkswagen Routan .
Have you ever been to a celebrity event at Kitson in Beverly Hills it was my first and super exciting! I don’t get celebrity shocked but this was a crowd to FaceBook and Twitter about:)
Jim Henson Company presented The Dr. Romanelli Fraggle Rock Clothing Collaboration & The Anita Ko Fraggle Rock Costume Jewelry Collection which can be purchased at Kitson.com with special presentation of the Fraggle Rock Volkswagen Routan and A Toy Drive to benefit the L.A. Mission.
Who was there you ask? When I first walked in I saw Paris & Nicky Hilton and knew the crowd could only get more interesting. I headed in to see The Anita Ko Fraggle Rock Costume Jewelry Collection! I looked around the room and could see Melissa Joan Hart & son, Carmen Electra, Shana Moakler, Debi Mazar, Monet Mazur & son. and Allison Janney. Then I finally had the chance in person to meet Chandi and Joey Lawrence since we are doing their nursery with pregnancy magazine and had such a lovely conversation with them. While we were chatting Chandi introduced me to Karina Smirnoff ( she was soooo super sweet). After chatting I looked around and was introduced to Stephanie Pratt ( ok, I know but I am a FAN and I did it for you gals:)
I decided to go check things out side where they had Fraggles and Snow and from a far I saw him… it was a ray of light but yes it was Gilles Marini… ahhhhh !!! then quickly I left that world and was saw Samantha Harris, Kevin Sorbo & family, Kellie Martin, Meaghan Martin, Molly Quinn, Britanny Curran, Katie Gill, Chloe Bridges, Annie Duke & Joe Reitman, Ashley Argota, Jordan Pruitt, Anna Maria Perez de Tagle, Jonathan Morgan Heit, Red Fraggle and more. But the real high light was being able to meet Ziggy Marley & family , and Lady Gaga. I did not go up and speak to them, I am not like that at all. I always respect the space of a clebrity/musician … but, they were standing near me outside waiting to leave and I had a chance to chat. Which is only because Ziggy is so super sweet and his kids are adorable and an easy convo to have.
OK, HERE IS SOME SCOOP!!! Jennifer Love Hewitt snuck in the back entrance of KITSON. Both Jennifer Love and Jamie Kennedy are huge Fraggle Rock fans and loved the Fraggle Volkswagen Routan. Jennifer Love even after shooting an 18 hour day with her debut to direct the 100th episode of Ghost Whisper she still came out to Rally and hang out with Red Fraggle.
Nicky and Paris were excited to have a girl’s shopping night out and were buying outfits for their family holiday party coming up…When asked what Paris thought of the Tiger scandal she said boys will be boys…..Also, Paris loved the Fraggle Rock Volkswagen Routan and she wants to find a way to drive it….
Gilles was wishing he brought his family but his kids go to sleep before 7 p.m. and it was way past their bedtime. Gilles was also chatting to Karina and telling her he wished that he could have had two dancing partners cause he is a huge fan of hers…
Samantha Harris was so excited to run into her DWTS friends but she was bummed that her kids weren’t able to finally meet Gilles and Karina.
Shar Jackson was asked what she thought of Tiger Woods and her response “I don’t think about Tiger.” Also, she was supportive that Kevin Federline was finally looking good and wished him the best. Here is what the celebs were saying about Tiger

Volkswagen Routan on "Let's Make A Deal"
"Next, we magically reveal a Volkswagen Routan S (Std., Wheels)(Curtain #1) valued at $26,400 that Sarah the Fairy could win if she can just spell the word ROUTAN (which is also the name of an island chain). Sarah...comes SO CLOSE with ROUTAEN, but she wisely bails out with $700 afterwards!"
Such a shame. Sadly, the narrator confuses the Volkswagen Routan (a variant of the European van Touran and a combination of Route and Van) with the ROATAN island group.
Volkswagen Routan--People Mover of the Stars
"As stars like Gilles Marini, Melissa Joan Hart and Paris Hilton stepped out in Hollywood to celebrate a new clothing line, they talked about the hottest topic making headlines: Tiger Woods. ...
The stars rolled up to the event in a Volkswagen Routan and celebrated the Fraggle Rock clothing and costume jewelry line."

Routan is the Only Minivan That Offers Wi-Fi
Making Your Car Your Computer
By GEOFF WILLIAMS, AOL SMALL BUSINESS
Not that anyone needs more proof that we've left the 20th Century in the dust, but our cars are becoming indistinguishable from our laptops.
Texting and driving still ranks as a stupid strategy, right up there with the idea for New Coke, but it is increasingly becoming very possible to be safely connected to the Internet while behind the wheel, provided you do all the necessary clicking and typing before you press your foot on the gas.
After all, you can listen to podcasts while driving, or listen to a favorite show on a video site like Hulu.com (but actually watching the show while driving = bad idea). You could theoretically talk on the phone -- through Skype -- while making your way to and from the office to your home. And there are probably numerous other ways you could use the Internet while driving.
You'd be forgiven for thinking that this is way too complicated, and what's wrong with the radio, anyway? Nevertheless, Chris Rauser, accessories manager for Chevrolet, points out, "If you carpool, you could have several people checking their email on their laptops, turning your car into a mobile office." Rauser has been eagerly talking up his company's new Chevrolet Wi-Fi by Autonet Mobile, which recently debuted in some Chevrolet models as well as Buick, Cadillac and GMC vehicles.
Rauser adds that because Chevrolet's modem reach is 150 feet, salespeople on call may find it easier to show prospective clients their wares -- they can take their own laptop into a client's home, using their car's modem to connect.
If you're thinking of turning your BMW or VW into a PC, or your Cadillac into a Mac, here are a few of the options available to you:
Chevrolet Wi-Fi by Autonet Mobile: As noted, this just hit the market. It works with Macs, laptops, PSPs, PDAs, iPhones, iPod Touches and probably anything else you can access the Internet from. Once it's installed in the car, you just use your computer as you would at any other Wi-Fi hotspot. The actual device costs $199 (provided you sign up for a two-year plan and probably other details, so check the fine print) and costs between $29 and $59 a month, depending on whether you go with their 1 GB or 5 GB data plan. More information can be found at the Autonet Mobile Web site.
Volkswagen's uConnect by Autonet Mobile: Yes, Autonet Mobile's apparently everywhere. Earlier this summer, they partnered with Volkswagen, equipping their minivan, the Routan, with Internet service. Pretty much everything you read in the preceding paragraph applies here. For more information, check out Volkswagen's press release on their car connectivity.
Ford Work Solutions: So far, this is just available in trucks -- though I imagine cars will be coming down the road soon -- and Ford is marketing it heavily to business owners, not to mention farmers, contractors and construction workers. Unlike the Chevrolet Wi-Fi system, with this, you actually buy a computer that goes with your Ford. The computer is $1,125, and the monthly plan is $25 a month for 25 MB or $50 for up to 5 GB of data. The computer includes Garmin GPS navigation, an AM/FM radio and a CD player, has a 6.5" screen and comes with a wireless Bluetooth keyboard, and if you want, you can buy a wireless Hewlett-Packard printer. Some professionals may not like the fact that -- for safety reasons -- you can only access your computer and the Internet when the vehicle is parked. A little harder to grasp is why you can't stream the Internet's audio or video, even when you're parked. But otherwise, it's a very cool setup. For more information, check out Ford Work Solutions.
The road ahead seems to indicate this isn't a passing trend. In 2011, the Audi 8 will be connected, allowing you to stream video and music and whatever else you want while you're zipping down the freeway, according to the blog Technology for the Soul. And recently the technological giant Alcatel-Lucent debuted its ng Connect program, which is working to bring dependable Internet access to automobiles, with a promise on their Web site that offers a glimpse of this technology's future. "Soon the must-have option for new cars won't be a sunroof or leather seats -- it will be ultra high-speed, high-bandwidth connectivity," the ng Connect Web site promises, assuring all of us: "Your car will be connected."

"More Than a Minivan Mom" owns a 2009 VW Routan
Treading trodden trails for a long, long time
There is so much to say, so much to comment on and report and respond to, but I've lost my voice, figuratively and literally. I've finally been run ragged enough that the illness that I evaded for the past couple months caught me, and I struggled to finish the workweek without taking a sick day. I made it, but now my voice has the annual Phoebe-singing-smelly-cat sexy sick timbre to it, and the gunk is settling in my lungs.
And I'm a little stuck in my head lately, in observation and contemplation mode rather than rant and preach and emote mode. On the one hand, it's a good place - I'm quieter, stiller, although I can't quite ascertain whether it's due to reflection or despondency. On the other, I am more puzzled by myself when I get like this - I am more comfortable and familiar with the other version of me.
But there's been a lot going on. In my life. At school. In the world. In my family. I don't quite know where to begin. Here's the bullet point version of the easily pinpointed events:
•On the way down to San Antonio for Thanksgiving, two of our "oh shit, there's trouble!" engine lights went on in the Odyssey. Turns out our transmission was shot. After sinking nearly 2 grand in the car this summer, and with a quote of close to 5 grand to fix the (necessary) problem, we elected to get a new car instead of fix the 9+ year old, 125k mile minivan. This is not exciting news. The only place in our budget to pay for a second car payment is from our down payment savings. Home ownership is now a very distant ship on the horizon, but on the upside, we can always live in our 2009 VW Routan van. Down by the river.
•How about that Tiger Woods, eh? Gotta love the judgemental finger pointing in our society. I'm not condoning infidelity, but I also think the only person whose problem it is, is his wife. I'm not in the mood to write a whole blog post about it, but the shorthand has something to do with human nature, our Puritan heritage, and people in glass houses. Piece it together.
•We're now in the second trimester at school (I'm 1/3 done with the school year!) and I'm teaching Women Writers. I'm passionate about this course, and LOVING the discussion and literature. We had a long discussion about the cult of womanhood in 2009, and what that means, the other day. It's a good blog post. Sometime, maybe I'll do that.
•Sam continues to test my fortitude. I was on the phone with his teacher at 6:30pm the other night. I don't know what's going on in his head or what more to do. Motherhood, it's a bitch. On the other hand, Bailey has really turned it around, and I'm so proud of him. I got a spontaneous note from his teacher the other day saying how great she thinks he is and how far he's come since the beginning of the year. He's getting great grades, and letting his geek flag fly in the safe environment of our school. I don't have much to say about Lucy. She is not allowed to have any issues until I get Sam figured out. I can only handle 1 dysfunctional child at a time.
•Our financial situation sucks. The end.
•Today was Mother's Visiting morning at school, so I dashed around trying to be a teacher and a mom. There were mothers there in fur coats. That's about all I have to say about that.
•I wish I could get excited about the holidays, because Christmas is my favorite season. But I'm overwhelmed with work and financially stressed and sick and a lot scattered. I'm envious of those of you who can leave work at the office (or for whom home IS the office. Or who don't have an office. Whatever), because I'm totally dropping the ball on everything, but I'm just too sick and tired and can barely keep up with what absolutely has to be done. Today was our faculty holiday party (which I missed because I'm sick) and I found myself thinking "What the HECK? Why are we having our holiday party?" but then it sort of dawned on me that it's 3 weeks until Christmas, and now is the time that parties start. But that doesn't seem right. I'm not there yet. Maybe on December 18th when I get out of work. I'm SURE 7 days (with the 3 kids home with me) is enough time to get ready for the holidays. Shop. Send cards. Bake. Decorate. Wrap. Create traditions with the kids. Listen to carols. Be jolly. Think of peace and goodwill on earth and towards mankind.
•Right?

MY New VW is big.. however…
It’s still got the power. This week I’m test driving (Thanks to Concours Motors in Milwaukee/onSilverSpring Just west of 43 www. concoursmotors.com)
The New 2010 VW Routan. With a ton of space, the timing couldn’t be better. This week, I’ve been hauling around many things. So when I need more space, the stow n go seating came in handy.. removing an entire row.. for several boxes of my wife’s art/photography that we were delivering to an upcoming holiday art fair. The automatic sliding doors are a strong choice, one less thing I needed to worry about “Are these doors really closed, did I shut them tight enough?” Usually what I wonder with your normal Minivan/van. Not a problem with the new VW Routan. Plus my crazy weirdo of a 2 year old boy loves the DVD system. You can grab the Sign Then Drive Deal, where you pay Zero for the 1st months payment, Zero due at signing, Zero for security dpst.. Get it at Concours Motors in Milwaukee.
Automakers See Glass Half-Full After Flat November Sales
This is a snippet from Auto Observer’s post:
Volkswagen Surge Continues
Volkswagen of America posted a 13.7-percent sales increase in November, the fifth consecutive month VW's sales have surpassed last year's marks.
Sales were powered by a whopping 307.5-percent blast from the surprising CC "coupe sedan," to 3,187 units for the month and year-to-date sales of 20,723. The Tiguan compact crossover also posted an 18.1-percent increase and even the low-volume Touareg crossover pulled ahead with a 14.3-percent gain for the month -- perhaps fueled by the new addition of diesel power.
Other winners at VW in November included the Jetta: In sedan configuration, sales increased by 13.2 percent, while the Jetta Sport Wagen body style appears to be pushing the right buttons, moving to a 67.7-percent increase for the month and 15,849 units for the year. The Passat wagon also enjoyed a slight gain.
But VW sales remain off by 6.1 percent for the year, with only the Jetta, Tiguan, CC, Routan (the CC and Routan were in early launch phases at this time last year) posting increased year-to-date sales. New Beetle sales amounted to a mere 594 units in November and have totaled just 13,408 for the year, while the Eos hardtop convertible also has faded; the Eos' year-to-date total of 6,754 sales is down by 45.5 percent.

Do you know which auto brand in America is the most fuel efficient?
Checkered Flag Blog for Toyota Scion Honda Hyundai VW BMW MINI smart Jaguar Porsche Audi: Do you know which auto brand in America is the most fuel efficient?
Article by Autoblog-
Quick – name the most fuel efficient automobile brand in America. Did you say Toyota? Honda? Surely, you're not alone, but incorrect all the same. In fact, the answer is none other than Hyundai, which publicly set out to nab the title just one year ago. According to the United States Environmental Protection Agency, Hyundai cars averaged 30.1 miles per gallon for the 2009 model year.
Rounding out the top five are Honda (29.7 mpg), Volkswagen (29.6), Toyota (29.4) and Kia (28.0). Naturally, we can expect all of these figures to continue rising in the coming years as every automaker strives to meet the upcoming 35.5 mpg U.S. standard for the 2016 model year.
Hyundai promises to meet that requirement with such technologies as direct injection, turbocharging, hybrid powertrains and lithium polymer batteries. The Korean automaker's first hybrid vehicle will be the 2011 Sonata sedan, which will hit the market early next year.

Side-By-Side Comparison of Routan, Odyssey, Town & Country, Sienna
The site has a few inaccuracies. Practically everything the Town & Country Limited has, the Routan SEL has. The site doesn't properly reflect Optional equipment. Among the more important items, the four vehicles are comparable. Each has pluses and minuses. It comes down to personal taste and what deals you can work out.

YTD November, 2009 Routan Sales
On February 6, 2008, Associated Press reported, in part: "[Volkswagen of America President and CEO Stefan] Jacoby said the minivan market still is approaching 1 million vehicles a year, and Volkswagen would like to capture 3 to 5 per cent of that."
PRNewswire published the November and YTD sales figures of the auto-makers who sell in the U.S. From these reports, we glean the following data:
Brand YTD - 11/09
Chrysler 76,093
Dodge 82,103
Honda 91,167
Hyundai 3,422
Kia 26,625
Mazda 16,866
Nissan 8,310
Toyota 75,509

Volkswagen's market share of sales is 3.50%, right where Volkswagen of America was aiming for. Volkswagen has gained market share where they had none.
2010 Volkswagen Routan Reviews, Pictures and Prices
U.S. News Rankings and Reviews
Pros and Cons
- Firm, but comfortable ride
- Handsome styling, inside and out
- More seat comfort than in Chrysler minivans
- Seating not as versatile as in Chrysler minivans
- Interior is a mixed bag
Volkswagen Routan - What the Auto Press Says
Volkswagen teamed up with Chrysler to produce the Routan. Like the partnership that created it, the Routan is something of a mixed bag.
The Routan is one of the few vehicles on the road today that's sourced directly from one company and sold by another. The Routan is a VW, albeit one that's heavily based on the Chrysler minivans -- the Chrysler Town & Country and the Dodge Grand Caravan. While those two models are seen as the granddaddies of the minivan class, in recent years they've been outpaced by minivans from Asian manufacturers. With the Routan, VW tried to reverse that trend, taking a tried and true minivan platform, retuning the suspension for more exciting driving and upgrading the interior with nicer materials from VW's parts bin.
The results are somewhat mixed. Reviewers say that while the Routan drives slightly better than the Chrysler minivans, it still lags the Honda Odyssey. Inside, while the VW materials help the interior, some reviewers say that simply slapping nice coverings on a Chrysler interior is sort of like putting lipstick on a pig.
Despite these setbacks, however, the Routan has some strong points. Its passenger cabin is roomy, and while its interior isn’t as versatile as its Chrysler cousins', the Routan's seats are more comfortable. Though reviewers say the Odyssey outperforms the Routan, it's only by a matter of degrees, and the Routan has a lower starting price. Finally, the Routan has very good crash test scores. And while the Routan's warranty isn't longer than its competitors, it’s the only minivan to offer free scheduled maintenance for three years or 36,000 miles.
The bottom line is, if you're shopping minivans, the Routan is a solid choice, but so is almost every other van in the class. Make sure you shop around.
The Routan comes in four trims: the S base model, the SE, the SEL and the SEL Premium. All Routans seat seven in three rows. The Routan was all-new in 2009. For 2010, little has changed.
- "It gets VW-ish sheetmetal and a dedicated interior and rides on an exclusive suspension, but those who expect the Routan to be more Chrysler than Volkswagen are not too wide off the mark. Think of it as a Volkswagen interpreted by Chrysler." -- Car and Driver
- " When all is said and done, the Routan might look and feel like a Volkswagen, but that doesn't mean that it is one." -- Automobile Magazine
- "Although tardy to the minivan scene, the new Routan does give Volkswagen a vehicle with first-rate mechanical credentials, distinctive visual character and the kind of comfort and convenience elements that should help boost its overall appeal to anyone who is considering a minivan purchase." -- Kelley Blue Book
- "Volkswagen doesn't have illusions of being a major player in the minivan market, but the Routan will give current VW owners, whose families have outgrown the Jetta or Passat, a choice within the Volkswagen brand. It adds choice for anyone needing a minivan. A minivan is not exactly an aspirational vehicle; it's one bought out of necessity, but that's no reason to give up a pleasant driving experience. The Routan is at the top of the minivan heap, from a vehicle dynamics viewpoint, and still has all of the amenities expected in the class." -- CNET
Routan Performance - NA
For a minivan, reviewers say the Routan delivers good performance. While it isn't a sports car, the Routan has decent power and handles better than most of its competition. Read More
Routan Exterior - NA
The Routan borrows element from its Chrysler counterparts, but adds some of its own personal flavor to the mix. Exterior options like power sliding doors and a power rear liftgate make the Routan family-friendly. Read More
Routan Interior - NA
On the whole, reviewers like the 2010 Volkswagen Routan's interior. "The seats are typically VW supportive, and most of the interior textures resemble those found in a Passat, not a Pacifica," says Automobile Magazine. Description
… "Although tardy to the minivan scene, the new Routan does give Volkswagen a vehicle with first-rate mechanical credentials, distinctive visual character and the kind of comfort and convenience elements that should help boost its overall appeal to anyone who is considering a minivan purchase." -- Kelley Blue Book
“Routan is a great rolling living room for families." -- New Car Test Drive
"Volkswagen doesn't have illusions of being a major player in the minivan market, but the Routan will give current VW owners, whose families have outgrown the Jetta or Passat, a choice within the Volkswagen brand.
